Description:
This seriescontains records relating to Hull Jewish Representative Council. The council is part of an association of such councils throughout Britain which were established to provide a voice for Jews in the local community. These councils are responsible for observing and reporting legislative and municipal developments that may impact on the Jewish community. In addition to this aspect of their work, the Representative Councils were also established to provide a body responsible for co-ordinating the activities and efforts of various Jewish organisations in Hull. Local Jewish organisations may pay a subscription to be affiliated to their council which allows them to send representatives to council meetings. Reports of representatives nominated by communities to attend Board of Deputies meetings in London and other regional locations are presented at Council meetings. The Representative Council closed down in 2006 but was revived again in 2015.
