This bundle includes letters regarding the Patronage of King George V and Queen Mary, King Edward VIII becoming Patron of the Society and the subsequent Patronage of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. The Royal Patronage of the Orphan Homes dates from Rear Admiral the Duke of Edinburgh, its first Patron from 1868-1899. Their majesties King George V and Queen Mary first became Patrons in 1892 when they were Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, and reconfirmed their Patronage of the Society both in 1902 as Prince and Princess of Wales, and in 1910 on their accession to the throne. King Edward VIII became Patron in May 1936, and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth on their accession in 1937.
