Description:
Skirmish as 48 (8 dragoons killed; 6 or 7 rebels killed and 60 prisoners). Rebels left Carlisle after a very short stay, leaving a garrison and some sick and wounded. 1,000 picked foot under Brigadier Mordaunt marched yesterday for Hexham. Expected to get horses there 'to hurry them forward to his Royal Highness'. A volunteer guard shot at; and reward of £50 offered for assailant
