Description:

Collection contains minute books, draft minute books, individual committee minutes, and associated papers relating to meetings of the Mayor and Aldermen of the Borough of Kingston upon Hull. The bound volumes of minutes and draft minutes are commonly referred to as the Bench Books. The Bench Books cover the period 1445-1835 [C BRB/1-10] and the draft Bench Books cover the period 1672-1835 [C BRB/11-25]. Individual committee minutes relate to miscellaneous meetings held in the period 1789-1841 [C BRB/26-30] and there are additional miscellaneous documents such as reports and notes covering the period 1682-1833 [C BRB/31-42].

Please note that some of the original bench books became separated from the main series prior to cataloguing which was undertaken prior to 1980. Consequently three of the bench books have been catalogued under a different reference from the main series. Also note that a 16th/17th century numbering system is still evident from the covers of the volumes. This numbering system has been referred to in past printed and published works and has been reproduced below for cross referencing purposes:
