Description

Admin History:
The first listing for the Hull and Liverpool Red Oxide Company was in 1892. It was listed as a red oxide manufacturer, sited at Bankside in Sculcoates (Kelly's Directory of the Port of Hull 1892, p33). It had a branch in St Helens, at Peasley Cross Lane (Kelly's Directory of the Port of Hull 1914, p33). The company was usually listed as a red oxide manufacturer, or occasionally as a chemical manufacturer (Cook's Hull & District Directory 1899 p331 & p526 and Kelly's Directory of Hull 1933, p461). Mr Harold E Jeacock was director and manager of the St Helens works. In 1954 it was listed as a chemical manufacturer, still on Bankside (Kingston upon Hull Telephone Directory 1954, p34 & p100). The company seems to have either been acquired by another or ceased trading around 1967 because it is listed in the Kingston upon Hull Directory for that year, but not in the Kingston upon Hull & East Riding Directory for 1967-68 (Kingston upon Hull Telephone Directory 1967 p11 and Kingston upon Hull & East Riding Directory 1967-68).
