Description

Admin History:
Originally established in 1857 as the Hull, East Riding and Lincolnshire Discharged Prisoners Aid Society, the society had the central aim of aiding prisoners after their discharge from prison. This could be helping them to find work, supplying the means to travel to work or by assisting them in any other way. The society would also administer the grants made by the Prison Commissioners as well as fund raise it's self through subscriptions and various events. In 1946 the Lincolnshire element of the title was dropped. The society registered with the Charity Commission in 1963. The Hull and East Riding Society would later join the Central Committee of Discharged Prisoners' Aid Societies, which later became the National Association, which subsequently developed into the National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders (NACRO).
