Admin History:

The Abattoirs (Special) Committee was established in 1899 to consider and report back to the council as the probable cost of suitable sites for a public abattoir and a municipal foreign cattle depot, which would also include it's own abattoir. In addition, the committee would consider any necessary buildings and equipment. From 1907 it became the Abattoirs Committee before becoming part of the Markets and Abattoirs Committee in 1922-1923.
