Hull City Council Clean Air (Special) Committee

Dates:
1956-1962

Description

Admin History:
The Clean Air (Special) Committee was appointed to consider what steps could be taken to reduce the smoke and other impurities in the atmosphere of the city. It would make recommendations to other committees and was made up of 15 members, 3 each from the Works, Health, Cleansing and Sanitary, Housing and Town Planning Committees. The Clean Air Bill was going through parliament at the same time as the committee was being formed, and so the committee would also look at what actions under the terms of the act it could use. In 18 July 1962 the council minutes record that from August 1962, the committee would only meet as required as a special sub-committee. From May 1963 any action required under the terms of the 1953 Clean Air Act would be delegated to the Cleansing and Sanitary Committee.
