In the light of the the conflict in the east (i.e. the Crimea War) the town council established a committee to oversee the defence of Hull, particularly as it was felt by the corporation that the citadel was of minimal use. It was in communication with the Office of Ordnance and once a committee of officers at the citadel had been established, the town's committee does not seem to have met again.
