1920-1921

Description

Admin History:
In 1920, with British miners in dispute with the mine owners and with a threat of possible industrial action, Hull City Council, like many other councils, began to plan ahead. As a result, the Food (Emergency) Committee was established on 29 October 1920, with the aim of co-ordinating with the Ministry of Food in order to reduce the suffering caused to the 'public during present labour dispuites'. The emergency was eventually called off and the committee was wound up after it presented its final report in May 1921.
