Hull Town Council Port Dues Committee records

Dates:
1846-1853

Description

Admin History:
The Port Dues Committee was instituted in October 1850 in response to a request from the Hull Dock Company for the corporation to 'ameliorate' charges made upon shipping arriving in Hull. The Council declined the company's request but did set up a committee to consider the whole issue. Two years later in August 1852, the committee was extended to include members from the town's own committee as well. The Town Clerk reported back to the full council on the issue of the port dues in March 1853 after which the committee appears to been wound up. It was revived briefly in 1857 in response to further developments on the issue of port dues.
