1919-1921

Description

Admin History:
In 1919, parliament passed the Profiteering Act, initially for 6 months, although this would later be extended and remained in force for 1½ years. The act authorised the Board of Trade to consider cases of 'unreasonable profit' and allowed the setting up of local committees. The city council considered the matter in September 1919 and the Hull Profiteering Committee was established as a result. It would have 15 members. The committee presented its final report to the full council in June 1921 when it was finally wound up.
