Admin History:
The will of Eleanor Scott dated 1713 and codicil of 1717 stated that the income from a house and 37 acres of land in Southcoates be used for the poor of Southcoates. The charity became 'The Non-Educational Charity of Eleanor Scott' in 1907 when authority was given for 4 almshouses to be built. A further 3 were built in 1934. The Trustees of the Charity established a school in Southcoates Lane for children from the Southcoates area. The school was closed by 1909 and funds used to provide scholarships for needy children and some money was allocated to Drypool Church of England School. It was amalgamated and withdrawn in 2006.
