Manor of Tupcoates with Myton, records

Dates:
1390-1936

Description

Admin History:
This manor was acquired by the de la Pole family in 1330 and retained by them until forfeited in 1513. It was then granted to Sir William Sydney but was regained by the crown under an exchange of property in 1538. It was granted to Hull Corporation by the charter of 1552 and retained by them to the present day. The records are concerned with the relatively small portion of the manor which was held by copyhold. The Law of Property Act (1925) abolished copyhold tenure and therefore the need to hold manorial courts
