Admin History:
Dr Somerville Hastings (1878-1967) served in the Royal Army Medical Corps during the First World War, followed by work as an aural surgeon at the Middlesex Hospital. He was elected as Labour MP for Reading (1923-24 and 1929-31) and Barking (1945-59) and sat on the London County Council for fourteen years. Dr Hastings was closely involved with the Socialist Medical Association, acting as its founding President from 1930.

There is also a set of boxes of papers of Somerville Hastings, but these are not properly labelled or arranged and are either additional to the microfilm or the originals from which the microfilm was made.
