- Mathew Brownell, inholder, the messuage, Inne or Mansion Howse called the Cloth Hall now known by the signe of the George with a garden thereto belonging in the High Streete and also a close or pasture called the Buttcrofte, lying near and without the walls of the town, excepting and reserving one great chamber in the East part of the capital messuage now used for laying of cloth in or for the Cloth Hall and with free liberty to the Mayor and Burgesses and all other persons to use the said Buttcrofte for games and playes and to dig up and take soddes for repairing the butts in the same Buttcrofte.
