Mary Johnson was declared insane and placed in the private lunatic asylum owned by William Casson, a surgeon, on Anlaby Road known as the Hull and East Riding Refuge in Dec 1840.. Her legal place of settlement was declared as St Olaves, Southwalk [Surrey] and the Churchwardens of Holy Trinity [Hull] ordered St Olaves Parish, Southwalk to pay 11shillings weekly to William Casson for her upkeep until such time she was released and removed to her rightful place of settlement.
