Accounts of building and labouring work (May 1809-Oct 1818) conducted in the area detailing the client, brief description of the work and a detailed breakdown of the costs. Many of the jobs recorded were for local churches and chapels including Hessle, Ferriby, 'Anleby' [Anlaby] and West Ella. The work included taking down a wall, putting in a window, work at the brickyard in Hessle, seeding flints for the 'hiways'.

The volume was subsequently used by the Executors of his Estate (William Galland and George Galland) after his death in Jan 1833 and lists a total of 177 articles sold, including details of who purchased the item and the sum paid, raising a total of £63 10s 1d. There is also a detailed record covering the period 1833-1848 of money received and paid out of the Estate by the Executors including funeral expenses.

The front of the volume contains a list of individuals who had died, often with their ages, between Oct 1808 and Dec 1815, though there is also an entry relating to 1793. Towards the rear of the volume as well as recording Samuel's death at the age of 75 there are also four entries (two Gallands and two other family members) for the period 1833-1853.
