Not only did he manage the move into the new building on Leicester Street despite considerable difficulties, he also modernised the curriculum. He encouraged the school to have a belief in itself and its history. During his tenure team games against other schools, various school societies, the Grammar School Gazette, the badge and uniform and the Old Boys Association were all developed
