- Description:
- fl. 1894-1926. Forty had the second longest tenure as Headmaster, some 33 years. Building on the work of his predecessors, especially Butler, during Forty's time, the school moved from a financially struggling institution (he even at one time paid staff out of his own pocket) to a school full of academic rigour and able to confidently take its place in the city. He realised the new buildings at Leicester Street were inadequate as were staffing levels. Providing a period of stability, Forty expanded both the buildings and the number of staff as well as seeing the school become part of the national education pattern
