Correspondence between Ann Avison and various members of the Dale and Collinson families

Reference No:

Dates:
8 Mar 1769
Description:
Letter to Ann Terry from Mary Dale. Mary Dale is to marry Mr. Collinson who has a Hat Manufactory in Manchester. He is going there at the end of the month and will come to Newcastle to 'carry me off '. She is clearly frightened of the prospect and turning to her religion to help her. Her relatives have checked Mr. Collinson's 'temporal affairs' and approve. She often thinks of Ann's 'present critical situation'. They both seem to dread marriage and the problems it will bring.
