Edward Ingram conducted this research for a book entitled 'Leaves from a family tree, being the correspondence of an East Riding Family.' (date unknown). John Grimston was a prominent member of the East Riding landowning Grimston family of Grimston Garth and Kilnwick. He was very active in the local militia. The East Riding Archives holds the Grimston family papers at reference DDGR. The University of Hull also has some papers of the Grimston Family of Grimston Garth and Neswick 1625-1891 at reference U DGN
