Description:

Ledger kept by persons acting as agent for the Jewish Association for the Protection of Girls and Women, including one 'Schultz' [Mr W. Schultz, Investigating and Dock Officer for the Hull Committee?]. The first page is inscribed 'Jewish Association for the Protection of Girls & Women Arrivals Southampton 1st March 1910', though 'Arrivals Southampton 1st March 1910' has been crossed through and replaced with 'Hull', and is stamped twice with stamp of the JAPGW. The register records the arrival of Jewish girls and women by ship into the UK, firstly at Southampton, and subsequently at Hull. Entries record the name of ship arriving, time of arrival, place from whence ship has sailed, number of people on board, number of Jewish girls or women on board, description of each Jewish girl or woman where possible. Descriptions of individuals record name, age, where travelling on to, whether travelling alone. Note that the register has been used as a rough ledger by an unknown merchant of clothing and textile goods trading in 1933. Manuscript.

Telegram from Mary Merin to A. Levine, 2 Weldon Street, Bethnal Green, London, bearing message 'Meet Kings X 12-15pm', n.d. Note that p.314 contains entry noting arrival of ship 'Saratoff' from Lilau at Riverside Dock on 3 Jun 1914, on board which was one 'Mary Merin 38 Molive Russia On way to London To brother in law A. Levine 2 Weldon St. Bethnal St Green London E. Trav alone she is Devorsed from her Husband Have sent a Telegram To London'.;
