Description:
This seriescontains records relating to the Hull Daughters of Zion, under the auspices of the Women's Zionist Organisation. Regional branches reported directly to a London based head office responsible for setting annual fundraising targets. The Hull branch was founded in 1954 by Rosalind Marks and members met at the Jewish Institute at 208 Anlaby Road. Past Chairman included Leah Rosen, Naomi Rosenston, Avril Rowland, Rita Passman, and Sadie Bermitz. The organisation was intended for young married women, and its objective was to help finance the care of the very young and the elderly in Israel, regardless of colour or creed, through the establishment of nurseries, day centres and rehabilitation homes. Fundraising events such as coffee mornings, jumble sales, film evenings, games nights, lectures and demonstration evenings, fashion shows, and musical evenings. The Hull branch ceased to function when it merged with WIZO sometime in the late 1990s.
