Description:
This seriescontains records of the Hull Western Synagogue congregation. The congregation was formed in 1902 when a number of leading families from the Hull Hebrew Congregation at Robinson Row broke away and established a Synagogue at 19 Linnaeus Street, the foundation of which was laid by Mr O.E. D'Avigdor Goldsmid in September 1902. The Linnaeus Street Synagogue was consecrated by Chief Rabbi Rev Dr Adler in May 1903, and the congregation of the Hull Western Synagogue continued to worship at this premises in accordance to the Ashkenazi Orthodox ritual until the amalgamation of the congregation with the Hull Old Hebrew Congregation in May 1992. The new united Hull Hebrew Congregation continued to worship at the Hull Western Synagogue until 1994 when new premises at Pryme Street, Anlaby, became ready for use and the synagogue building at Linnaeus Street was sold.
