Description:
Photocopy of the Burial Book of Hull Western Synagogue beginning in 1905 shortly after the Linnaeus Street synagogue opened, incorporating former members of the Hull Central Hebrew Congregation who moved to the Western Synagogue when the Central Congregation's synagogue on Park Street closed in 1976, and used by the Hull Hebrew Congregation following the merger of the Hull Old Hebrew and Western Congregations in 1994. Entries in the book are recorded by the shammas, or beadle, the first of which was Hyman Harris, followed by Jacob Brown 1916-1919, Morris Abrahamson 1919-1944 (although some of the entries made in this period are by his daughter Annie Ettie), Harry Westerman 1945-1998, and Michael Westerman the current recorder. Note: Original still in use by Hull Hebrew Congregation at Pryme Street Synagogue and in the custody of Michael Westerman.
