Description:
File contains papers relating to the Hessle Road Cemetery. The cemetery can be dated to 1780, it is known to have been used in the period 1812-1858, and is a small ground adjoining the Alexandra Hotel on Hessle Road. Papers include bound transcript of monumental inscriptions at Hessle Road and Ella Street cemeteries produced by the East Yorkshire Family History Society, press cutting relating to a complaint of the landlord of the Alexndra Hotel regarding the state of disrepair of the ground, unbound copy of a transcript of monumental inscriptions produced by Jack Allerston, correspondence mainly with Mr A.G. Dunbar the owner of the Alexander Hotel, photocopies of extracts taken from various sources relating to the cemetery, maps of the site, schedule of deeds relating to the cemetery dated 1929, photographs of tidying work undertaken at the cemetery in 2003, notice relating to a tour of the cemetery to mark European Day of Jewish Culture and Heritage on 3 Sep 2006, short article written by Dr Lewis titled 'The Second Hull Jewish Cemetery 1812-1858 and photocopies and notes relating to the purchase of land for memorials.
