- This article relates to the reconstruction of the Hull Royal Institution after the blitz. The original building was designed by Cuthbert Broderick and was opened in 1854 by Queen Victoria and the Prince Consort. Before the opening of the City Hall, it was the principal meeting hall in the City centre. The Royal Institution was the home of two local organisations; the Hull Subscription Library and the Hull Literary and Philosophical Society
