Note that the first page is inscribed 'Mr Joseph Elletson Gentleman, Howden, Yorkshire'. This gentleman appears to have acquired the volume c.1840. Enclosed are numerous receipts recording payment of rates and income and property tax made by Mr Elletson in relation to Howden covering the period 1840-1847.
