The volume contains 27 individual pieces (25 letters, a will and a deposition) numbered 1-26 and 30. There does not appear to be any pieces numbered 27-29 as the last piece is numbered 30. Letters 1-21 and 30 are copies sent by Stanhope. 22-24 are damaged portions of other letters. On the inside of the front cover in an inscription 'Presented by Miss Dorothy MacKail the famous film star + a Hull Girl'. In addition to the numbered peices, there are extracts relating to Sir Michael Stanhope from Gent's, Tickell's and Hadley's histories of Hull. These are followed by 'Extracts from "Notices of the Stanhopes" by Lord Mahon'
