Reference No:
C DPD/1/3/2/4/4
Dates:
3 Oct 1913-5 Apr 1919
Description:

The folder contains correspondence between Andrew Marvel Jackson, Solicitor to the Humber Conservancy Board, and others, and related papers regarding matters affecting Broomfleet Estate. The majority of this material is connected with a right of way dispute over a road connecting the Broomfleet Council School with Weighton Lock as a result of the closure of the road by Lloyd Patchett. The file includes two maps outlining the road in question, newspaper cuttings of articles covering the dispute, statements on the matter by William Kirby (of Broomfleet) and Richard Nicholls (schoolmaster of the aforementioned school), and a photograph of Reverand Arnold J. Holmes protesting the closure of the road. A copy of an indenture dated 10 August 1841 related to Mr Patchett's property has also been included.

Other topics covered include: an application from the Broomfleet Village Food Production Society for the allocation of land in Broomfleet Estate – specifically a field known as Broomfleet Hope – for use as allotment gardens, and further correspondence relating to the renewal of Alfred Henry Strickney's lease of Broomfleet Island – a copy of the draft lease (anotated in red ink) can be found in the file.
