The file comprises correspondence, sent (and received) by the Engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board (Arthur Ernest Butterfield), to/from the Union Dry Dock and Engineering Company Limited regarding cleaning, repairs, and renewals to the Spurn Lightship [HCB LV 12]. A specification for this work is included in the file, along with a specification for a temporary replacement Lightship. The file also contains copies of notices to mariners issued by the Board announcing alterations to the wireless signal beacons, and the temporary withdrawal of the Spurn Lightship (and its substitution with a temporary Lightship) for maintenance work.

The file also contains correspondence between the Board's Secretary (Alfred F. Franklin) and the Secretary of Hull Trinity House regarding a proposed alteration to the Spurn Lightship’s wireless beacon.
