Description:: The file consists of correspondence between the Engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board (Arthur Ernest Butterfield), the Assistant Superintendent for the Upper Humber (Charles Augustus Mountifield, based at Brough), and various contractors and equipment suppliers. The subject matter is the operation and maintenance of the Upper, Middle, and Lower Whitton Lightships. This includes documentation of collisions with passing river traffic, crewing matters (e.g. accidents, promotions, illness etc.), the supply of provisions for the lightships (in the form of returns of Form A 'New Articles Required'), the hiring of a replacement vessel as a temporary lightship etc. This includes specifications for overhaul and maintenance work required by the lightships, dated May 1934.
