Description:: File comprises correspondence between the engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board, various shipping companies, shipbrokers, bunkering agents, forwarding agents, and freight brokers, regarding the Oil in avigable Waters Act, 1922. Includes correspondence regarding various vessels entering the River Humber system to discharge their cargo of various oils and spirits at the various wharfs and jetties along the River Humber system (e.g. Saltend, Gunness, Killingholme, Goole, etc.), and also into vessels whilst moored in the river. A local bye-law states that no petroleum spirit can be transferred between sunset and sunrise except as provided by that bye-law. There appears to be a conflict in interpretation of the bye-law night time curfew in unloading between the Railway Company regarding their installation at Saltend and the way the Conservancy Control interprets the bye-law, as well as problems occurring at Hedon Haven (e.g. oil pollution, etc.).
