Description:
The file consists of correspondence, sent (and received) by the Engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board (Arthur Ernest Butterfield, from 1946 Mr Ralph John Hindmarsh), to/from various individuals and organisations on a multitude of topics on a daily basis. The correspondence details the routine work of the Department including: issues with boat congestion at Hessle Haven and trouble launching the 'Wall Brook' by Henry Scarr Limited; the removal of sand at Skeffling; the breaking up of wrecks at Paull and other locations on the Humber Foreshore; drifting and floating mines in the North Sea; shipping collisions (e.g. the Grimsby trawler 'Robinia' and the steamship 'Devon' near the Spurn Point Lightship); and a proposed Western Area Sewerage Scheme (Twin Outfalls, Pyewipe).
