Reference No:
C DPD/1/3/5/1/241
Dates:
1 Jul 1937-29 Dec 1942
Description:
File comprises correspondence between the engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board, the United Towing Co. Ltd. Hull, and the Superintendent, Brough Office, regarding operational work being carried out within the Upper Humber River system. Examples of this work are movements and repositioning of lightships and buoys, information regarding bomb craters near the Blackburn aircraft factory at Brough and Reads Island, as well as major problems to lightships, buoys and gas float positions during the Winter of 1940, caused by enormous quantities of ice in the upper Humber (notes that tugs sent to recover lightships became trapped in the ice for three tides). Includes monthly statements of inspection of the lightstations, plus monthly returns for petrol and paraffin usage for the Board’s vessels working in the upper Humber.
