File 557 (1) 'Spurn Fog Signal Temporary File'

Reference No:
C DPD/1/3/5/1/251
Dates:
1 Jan 1942-7 Jul 1945
Description:
File comprises correspondence between the engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board, Trinity House, London, the flag officer, Royal Naval base, Immingham, and Commander Brown, Extended Defence Office, Humber, Spurn, regarding the operation and then discontinuance of the Spurn Point temporary beacon and fog signal. The fog signal was installed at Spurn Point at the request of the Admiralty when the Bull Lightship was removed and the light on Spurn Lighthouse was discontinued. After the War the Bull Lightship returned to its original position and the Spurn Lighthouse light was switched on. Consequently there is a lot of correspondence regarding the now redundant temporary beacon and fog signal.
