The file consists of correspondence between the Engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board (Ralph John Hindmarsh) and various ship breakers [companies involved with breaking up redundant craft] based on the north bank of the Humber. This includes correspondence with Mayer Newton and Company Limited and Sacks (Hull) Limited regarding land at the Whiting Works at Hessle to be used for cutting up steel lighters and tugs. It also includes discussions surrounding similar work being carried out at Paull by John R. Hepworth and Company (Hull) Limited. The file also includes correspondence with individuals wishing to break up vessels on the foreshore at either Hessle or Paul.
Additional correspondence within the file is connected with the removal of timbers from the Board’s Jetty at Hessle.
