- The file consists of correspondence between the Engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board (Ralph John Hindmarsh); the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food; and various manufacturers of tidal gauge instruments. The subject matter is tidal observations of the Humber and the Rivers Ouse and Trent. This includes discussion connected with a proposal for the installation of apparatus to link the Tidal Gauge at Immingham with the Central Forecasting Office at Bracknell, Berkshire. The purpose being to provide flood warnings for the East Coast. There is further correspondence regarding a Tidal Gauge ‘Stick’ at Burton Stather, and correspondence regarding tidal readings taken by the Board. Along with a bundle of correspondence concerning 'abnormal tides' in the Humber, and a proposal for the installation of a tide gauge at the mouth of the Estuary in 1956.
