File 815 'Read's Island'
- Reference No:
- C DPD/1/3/5/1/336
- Dates:
- 21 Feb 1949-19 Jul 1961
- Description:
The file consists of correspondence between the Secretary to the Humber Conservancy Board (Ralph John Hindmarsh), various Wildfowl Trusts, the London Nature Conservancy, and Joseph Nickerson, connected with the construction of a new bank on the west side of Reads Island; the scheme had arisen as a result of erosion caused by the wake of river traffic passing close to north shore of Reads Island.
Also included is correspondence relating to shooting rights on the island, and proposals that nearby lightship crews could police the wildfowl sanctuary on the island and report illegal shooting to the Humber Wildfowl Refuge Committee. There is also discussion in the file related to water vole problems on the island.
