The file consists of of correspondence, sent (and received) by the Engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board (Arthur Ernest Butterfield), to/from various suppliers and contractors on the subject of repair work to be undertaken to the steam launches 'Pilot' and 'Southwark'. A specification, dated 26 June 1911, for the work required for the s.l. 'Pilot' has been included, along with a Captain’s Report (dated 20 June 1911) of a collision with the s.s. 'Southwark'; the Captain of the 'pilot' was taking off orders to the s.s. 'Moray Firth'.
Additional correspondence in the file is concerned with painting, slipping, and boiler work to be carried out during June 1910 necessitating the hiring of a tug to replace the 'Pilot'. Further correspondence details a collision between the 'Pilot' and the Grand Central Railway Ferry Steamer 'Grimsby' at Victoria Pier, Hull, on 6 September 1909.
