The file is concerned with the operational requirements of the Thorngumbald Lights. This includes: general correspondence between the Lightkeeper (Thomas Winson) and the Engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board (Arthur Ernest Butterfield), and monthly postcards from the Lightkeeper reporting on paraffin usage and storage. The file also includes returns of the following forms: 'Stores Required' (Form A), 'Stores in Stock' (Form B), and 'Stores Received' (Form C).

Further topics discussed in the correspondence includes the painting of the Lighthouse and Cottage, the sinking of a sloop on the Paull Holme Sand, and flooding during a gale in February 1914 caused by water blowing over the embankment.
