- Reference No:
- C DPD/1/3/5/1/53
- Dates:
- 1 Oct 1908-11 Dec 1909
- Description:
The file consists of correspondence between the Engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board (Arthur Ernest Butterfield), representatives of Chance Brothers Limited (Smethwick), and representatives of Earles Shipbuilding and Engineering Company Limited (Hull). It is concerned with a newly constructed vessel, Lightship No. 8 [HCB LV 8], for service on Bull Sand Station in the Lower Humber. This includes discussion concerning 'teething problems’ with the vessel: loose glazing on the lantern of the vessel, fire door problems, etc. A specification for the Lightship, and photographs of the lantern and fog signal installed can also be found within the file.
Also included in the file is a report of an 'inclining experiment' on the vessel in Princes Dock (dated 29 October 1909), and a report on an inspection of the vessel (dated 6 September 1909). Further correspondence is connected with a visit to the Lightship by Mr Jeboult from the French Lighthouse Service.
