Description:: The file consists of correspondence between the Engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board (Arthur Ernest Butterfield), and the following: the Port Master for Grimsby, Grimsby ship owners, all the Board's lighthouse keepers and masters of lightships. The subject matter includes charts for the Humber (from Hull to the Sea), the operation and maintenance (including cleaning of the lanterns) of the lighthouses, semaphore practice using flags and lamps,and the use of lead lines for surveying purposes.
