Description:

The file consists of correspondence between the Engineer (Arthur Ernest Butterfield) and Secretary (Alfred William Franklin) to the Humber Conservancy Board and the Lifeboat Coxswain at Spurn Point, the Coastguard at Spurn Point, Andrew Marvel Jackson and Company (Solicitors for the Conservancy), and various engineering companies and suppliers. The subject matter is the operation and maintenance of the Bull Lightship [HCB LV 8] stationed off Spurn Point. This includes correspondence regarding various vessels colliding with the Lightship, and correspondence regarding messages transmitted from the Lightship to the Coxswain of the Spurn Lifeboat through the use of the International Flag Code.
