- The file consists of of correspondence between the Engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board (Arthur Ernest Butterfield) and the Assistant Superintendent of the Upper Humber (Charles Augustus Mountifield), suppliers of material (e.g. chalk, slag, ironstone etc.), and various contractors (including boat owners). The subject matter is improvement works of river defences at Broomfleet Estate (e.g. embankments, groynes, chalk toes, revetments etc.), in order to prevent erosion or overtopping of the existing banks. Returns of weekly time sheets, submitted to Mr Mountifield, recording the labour employed in these works can be found in the file. There is also additional correspondence connected with re-painting the farm house and other buildings on the Estate.
