Description:

Documents outlining the history of Share No. 56, which was issued in 1773 and subsequently sold on nine separate occasions. Over the course of this history the value of the share rose from its original purchase price of £250 to £1500 in 1804, and then fluctuated until its sale in 1831 for £1050. The following numbered documents are included:

No. 1 Abstract of the title to the Hull Dock Share No. 56 belonging to the Executors of William Sowby, deceased (1831)

No. 2 Extract from the Probate copy of the Will of William Hammond Esq, late of the town of Kingston upon Hull (16 May 1793)

No. 3 Transfer of share in the Hull Docks from Edward Foster Coulson to Henry Legard (24 May 1808)

No. 4 Transfer of share in the Hull Docks from Reverend Charles Constable and Frederick Campbell to John Hudson and Robert King (13 May 1824)

No. 5 Declaration of Trust as to Hull Docks share John Hudson and Robert King to Cornelius Hewitt and Margaret his wife (21 July 1824)

No. 6 Transfer of share in the Hull Docks from John Hudson and Robert King to William Sowby (15 May 1829)

No. 7 Probate copy of the Will of William Sowby, late of the town of Kingston upon Hull (4 July 1829)

No. 8 Transfer of share in the Hull Docks from the Executors of William Sowby, deceased, to Samuel Lightfoot (31 August 1831)

No. 9 Letter from Frederick Campell to Samuel Lightfoot (10 Sep 1831)
