A seriesof correspondence files created by Richard Pawley (Engineer to the Hull and Barnsley Railway), acting in the capacity of Joint Engineer for the Hull Joint Dock [King George Dock]. It comprises correspondence with other staff employed by either the Hull and Barnsley Railway (H&BR) or the North Eastern Railway (NER), along with correspondence with companies contracted to supply material and equipment to, or work on, the Dock.

Names which occur frequently in the files include: Thomas Monk Newell (initially as Dock Engineer for the NER, later for the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board), C. Watson (Chief Docks Engineer, NER), W. Ebdon (Resident Engineer), Alex Wilson (Secretary to the Joint Dock Committee), Alexander Kaye Butterworth (General Manager, NER), and Eric Campbell Geddes (Deputy General Manager, NER).
