Memoranda by Skipper 15th April 1885 close to the Horn Reef. Smack Ethereal No. 1046 with stern on the port side amidships of the smack Agnes delved in 3 planks and covering board, cracked 2 stanchions at 1.30 am no one on the deck of the smack Ethereal at the time of the accident. On the morning of the 17th of February whilst heaving up the gear the second hand discovered that the trawl warp had been cut in two places , and after questioning each member of the crew the cook , David Green admitted having cut it in order, as he paid to return sooner to port. When we arrived at Hull on the 23rd February he was immeadiately arrested and charged with the offence before the magistrate and was sentenced to six weeks imprisonment with hard labour.
