11 March 1890 Samuel Turner deck hand. Through the ship lurching Turner took hold of the capstan to steady himself whilst walking forward, and the wheels being in motion two fingers of his left hand were trapped nd severely crushed, necessitating eventually amputation of the 2nd finger.
